Rawa Disc
Welcome!
Let's start making Rawa Disc. This dish requires very common ingredients and two steel glasses. So I start with discussing the ingredients first
Ingredients: For 2 persons
1. Rawa - 1 Cup
2. Curd - 1 Cup
3. Potato - 3 medium size boiled and then grated+mashed.
4. Oninon-1 medium sized finely chopped
5. Green Chilli - 1 no. finely chopped
6. Ginger - 1 inch finely chopped
7. Refined Oil - 1 tbsp
8. Plain Eno - 1 tsp
Spices:
1. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
2. Salt to taste
3. Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
4. Red Chilli powder. 1/4 tsp
5. Small mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
6. Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Now, let's start cooking
Method:
Step 1: Mix curd and Rawa and keep aside for 30 minutes
Step 2: Turn on the stove keep the flame low medium, put a pan on and add oil. When oil gets hot add small mustard seeds & cumin seeds
Step 3: When cumin seed starts crackling, chopped green chilli ,chopped ginger and curry leaves. Fry it for 1 minute.
Step 4: Now add chopped onions and cook it till it gets light brown.
Step 5: Then add turmeric powder, Coriander Powder, Red chilli powder and salt. Cook it for 30 seconds.
Step 6: Add grated and mashed potatoes to the masala of step 5 and mix it continuously for 2 minutes. After this turn off the stove and leave till it attains normal temperature.
Step 7: Then make two cylinders of potato masala of length few cms less than the height of glass and half of the diameter of the bottom of the glass( see pic )
Step 8: Now, again turn on the stove ,put kadai with water & stand and let the water boil.
Step 9: Now, take Rawa and Curd mix of Step 1 and add 1/2 tsp salt ,2 tbsp water and mix them well.Then add the plain eno.The batter is ready
Step 10: Grease two steel glasses with oil from inside.Add batter to the steel glasses so as to fill only 3/4 th of the glasses.Now put the potato cylinders in the glasses in the middle of the batter.Now again pour the rest of the batter around the cylinders. Do not fill the glasses with the batter leave some space from top of the glass.(see pic)
Step 11: Now, keep both glasses on the stand kept in kadai of boiling water. Cover the kadai with a large utensil and let it cook in steam for 15 minutes on medium flame.
Step 12: After 15 minutes, turn off the stove, uncover the Kadhai and take out the glasses. Let the glasses reach the normal temperature.
Step 13: Now tap the bottom of the glass Rawa with potato cylinder will come out. Cut these cylinders to discs your Rawa Disc is ready.
You can also season with white sesame seeds and curry leaveson
Serve with peanut chutney
