Hari Matar Ka Nimona

Hello Friends,

Today I am sharing a very tasty and very simple North Indian Main course food NIMONA. The dish is very popular mostly in Bihar and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh,India. This food is commonly considered as a food of winters because in winters fresh green peas are available in ample amount in vegetable markets but it can be made in summers also by using packed green peas. So, let's start the cooking.

Ingredients - For 2-3 Persons

1. Green peas 250 grams
2. 8-10 cloves of Garlic
3. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
4. Asafoetida 1/2 teaspoon
5. Bay leaves 2 nos.
6 Coriander Powder 2 teaspoon
7. Garam Masala 1 teaspoon
8. Potato big size 1 no.
9. Green Chillies 3-4 nos.
10. Kachchi Ghani Sarso Oil 2 cups
11. Tomato 1 no. Chopped
12. Turmeric 1/2 teaspoon
13. Chopped coriander leaves

Method ( Cook on Medium Flame)

Step 1: Peel off the potato and cut it into 6-7 medium sized pieces.
Step 2: Put the green peas , Garlic cloves and  Green chillies in a blender

Step 3: Blend the combination at low speed to ensure coarse grinding of the green peas (Do not make fine paste of Green peas). Instead of using blender ,you can use pestel and mortar but it may take lot of time.

Step 4: Put a pressure cooker on stove and add the oil in it(here I have used Sarso Oil but you can use  refined oil also).Let the oil get heated.  Fry the potato till it turns golden brown. After that take them out of the cooker.

Step 5:  In the same oil add cumin seed and bay leaves. When cumin starts crackling add the blended combination and asafoetida in it. Fry the combination till it leaves the oil from sides and surface.

Step 6: Now add some water and then dhaniya powder, Garam Masala and turmeric. Mix it well. After 2 minutes add the fried potatoes & chopped tomatoes also and again mix it well.

Step 7: Let it cook till it leaves the oil from surface and sides.

Step 8: Add Water as per the thickness of gravy you need.

Step 9: Close the lid of Pressure cooker
Step 10: Turn the stove off after 1 or 2 whistles (maximum)
Step 11: Garnish the dish with copped coriander leaves.
The lip smacking NIMONA is ready

Combination of Rice and Nimona tastes really awesome though it can be served with chapatis also.
So, try this at your home and share your comments how it tastes and don't forget to follow and share the blog.
